Run Coaching

Are you training for a marathon or ultra & looking for some support & guidance from an experienced ultra runner & England Athletics-qualified running coach?

Hi, I’m Ally, a trail & ultra runner & an England Athletics-qualified running coach.

I am now taking on a limited number of new athletes who want to challenge their running abilities & discover what they are capable of with personalised run coaching.

I love to share my passion for running & training knowledge with others & specialise in coaching for marathon distances upwards.

Why work with me?

I am an experienced ultra runner with podium finishes in distances from 50km to 200 miles. Since 2022, I have PB’d at every distance from 5km to 100 miles.

In my mid-40s, I am fitter, faster & stronger than in my 20s & 30s & I have achieved these podium finishes & PBs through consistent & focused training.

I coach & lead by example. I bring my drive, my determination & my focus to helping you achieve your running goals.

Not only will you benefit from my coaching experience, but you will also benefit from my ultra running & racing experience. I will help you train, plan & prepare.

My Training Philosophy

I am your cheerleader & communication is key to the success of an athlete & coach relationship.

Great results are built through regular & consistent training.

Finish times do not define us as runners. Success is measured in many other ways.

Focusing on the process rather than solely on the goal means shifting your attention & emphasis to the actions, efforts, and experiences involved in the journey toward achieving a desired outcome, rather than being fixated solely on the end result.

A process goal might be to start running up hills during your long runs rather than walk them.

A realistic goal is one that you can reach with your current mindset, motivation level, timeframe, skills & abilities.

Goals & training sessions need to be realistic & achievable. I will never ask you to do something outside of your ability. I will challenge you if I think your goals are unrealistic to your current skills & abilities.

Your training is specific to your goals.

If your race is hilly, expect lots of hilly training!

If your race is at night, expect some night runs in your plan!

We build your training gradually over time to keep it sustainable. Patience is a virtue. Ambitious goals take time to achieve.

Think of the popular adage; Rome wasn’t built in a day…

Rest days are sacrament & a key session within a training plan!

Ultimately, I want you to enjoy your training. If you enjoy it, you’re more likely to stick with it, complete the sessions & achieve your goals!

How does training with me work?

As athletes, we are all individuals, with different needs & different goals. There is no one-size-fits-all approach. When working with me, your training plan is personalised to you & your lifestyle.

We start with a 60-minute discovery call to help me understand who you are as a person, your running background & your goals & motivations.

I then create a custom training plan designed exclusively for you that fits around your life.

You may work long hours & can only commit to running a few times a week. That’s fine, your plan will fit this & we’ll make every one of those runs count! Or, if family commitments mean you can’t train at the weekend, we will train Monday to Friday. Work shifts? We’ll fit your training around your shift pattern.

We make running fit your life, not your life fit your running. We run for fun & I want you to enjoy your training. If you’re enjoying your training because it works for you, you’ll want to do the sessions & ultimately this will help you achieve your goals.

What’s included?

This is to help me understand who you are as a person, your running background & your goals & motivations.

Your plan is broken down into four weekly blocks with each block having its own focus & process goal.

Knowing your training plan in advance helps you to plan but life is dynamic & adjustments can be made as needed.

A monthly coaching call to address any specific challenges & look ahead to your next training block.

A coach is here to make you accountable. We can create the most amazing plans, but they only work if you put 100% trust in us & commit to doing the training.

Communication is key to the success of an athlete & coach relationship.

Investment

Signing up to run coaching isn’t simply a financial investment. By engaging a running coach you are investing in yourself & your personal development. A running coach keeps you accountable & helps guide you towards your goals.

My standard training package is £480 for 24 weeks*.

This consists of six 4-week training blocks at £80 per block & equates to £20 per week.

Weeks 1-8*

I cannot coach you properly if I don’t know you. I need to know your current running ability, your strengths & your weaknesses to create your personalised plan. Without this knowledge, I am creating a generic, non-specific plan that may not work for you.

This eight-week period is where we build our coach & athlete relationship & you learnt to trust me. We benchmark, we build a routine & we make running a habit. Then, in week nine, we can jump straight into your race-specific training confident that the sessions in your plan are right for you.

Weeks 9-24

These are split into four, four-week blocks with each block having its own focus & process goal as we build towards your goal race. Over time, these blocks piece together to form your full training plan.

Week 24

Race week. This is where the magic happens & you see the results of the training you’ve done over the past 24 weeks!

*If you have worked with me previously, or if you are a Striders of Croydon runner who regularly attends my Tuesday night REPS sessions, weeks 1-8 are not needed. A 16-week training plan is £240.
