My stomach turns in nervous anticipation as I see the sign ‘this way to the finish’. Turning into the stadium grounds I hear the excited buzz of the finish area. I hold myself back for a moment & take a deep breath. A few quiet words as I compose myself. I’ve done it. Through the … Continue reading North Downs Way 100: The Race of my Life
Journey along the North Downs Way
Friday 20th July 2018 I arrived at the finish line of the North Downs Way. Technically it’s not quite the finish line as although I have run Farnham to Dover in several stages, I still have to run the 33 mile Canterbury loop so it's not quite the end.
Centurion One Community: 100 miles in one week…
At the end of the month, I am taking part in the Centurion One Community virtual run & I am going to run 100 miles in one week between 25th & 31st May to raise money for the excellent Trussell Trust. I run. A lot. I like to run. No, I LOVE to run ❤️ … Continue reading Centurion One Community: 100 miles in one week…
The Inaugural South Norwood Marathon
It was never about the race, the city, the medal or the other runners. It was just about me. A challenge. Was I capable? Could I do it? Most people will know me as a trail loving ultra runner at home covered in mud & eating snacks on a hill somewhere on the North or … Continue reading The Inaugural South Norwood Marathon
Wendover Woods 50, 2019
Wendover Woods 50, where do I start? I wasn’t going to write about Wendover Woods 50, in fact, I’m only now sitting down, a few months post-race, with some words to say. Pre-race I just wasn’t really feeling it. Earlier on in the year, my whole focus had been on the two South Downs Way … Continue reading Wendover Woods 50, 2019
The South Downs Way 100
How do you condense the story of 100 miles into just a few hundred words? You don’t. Mix a G&T, this is a long one. A few weeks later & I’m still not sure if I have the right words to accurately tell my SDW100 story. I sit here, trying to think of the words … Continue reading The South Downs Way 100
The Secret One
It’s Sunday night. I'm heading into race week. “Race? What race?" I’ve not shouted about this one, I’ve not talked about it publicly, I’ve not mentioned it in my training runs on Strava or in my Insta posts. When asked ‘what next?’ after SDW50 I’ve been rather evasive. But everything I have done over the … Continue reading The Secret One
South Downs Way 50: 2019
With 5 miles to go I thought I’d blown it. I had a goal time in my mind for the South Downs Way 50 but at the bottom of the final hill I just couldn’t see how I was going to do it. I was tired, my knees were in agony, my stomach was churning … Continue reading South Downs Way 50: 2019
Toronto Waterfront Marathon
Toronto Waterfront Marathon, I did it! The marathon I didn’t think I’d be fit enough to start, I started AND I finished. I could stop there, I don’t know if there’s a story in this race or not. There should have been the most amazing story had the best laid plans not gone AWOL but life … Continue reading Toronto Waterfront Marathon
Toronto Waterfront Marathon, T-4 days
I sit here just a few days away from Toronto Waterfront Marathon with mixed feelings about the race. Feelings of excitement but also feelings of disappointment. Excited to run a marathon in a city I love, disappointed that I’m not going to be able to run the race I originally wanted. This was going to … Continue reading Toronto Waterfront Marathon, T-4 days
